The events industry is constantly reinventing itself. Sometimes it’s fueled by culture and sometimes it’s born out of necessity. Through the ups and downs, the most successful venues and vendors are those that pivot when needed and stay attuned to their customers’ needs.
At Eventective, we’ve seen it all — and, like you, we’re constantly learning how to better serve today’s event planners. We recently surveyed the events landscape and identified five key factors impacting weddings, parties, and meetings this year.
As we head into peak event season, keep these trends and truths in mind to put your best foot forward in 2026 and beyond. Download our research study for the full rundown!
Non-Traditional Weddings Grow in Popularity
It’s no secret: COVID changed the wedding industry forever. While couples opted to elope or limit their guest lists out of necessity, now it’s more of the norm. The pandemic brought non-traditional wedding celebrations to the forefront — a trend that continues to this day.
2026 wedding trends include:
- Decreasing interest in formal venues like banquet halls, ballrooms, and country clubs. 54% of wedding planners rented a formal venue in 2025 while just 45% of planners expect to rent a formal venue in 2026.
- Increasing interest in experiential venues like boats, museums, and theaters — up 4% in 2026.
- Budget-friendly or DIY alternatives to popular vendor services like photography, catering, and florals, with some couples choosing to forgo these details altogether.
Event Budgets Continue to Tighten
Wedding planners aren’t the only ones watching their wallets. Overall, event planners are predicting they will spend less money in the coming year than in the previous year. Our findings highlighted a 7% drop in high-budget event spend ($10,000+) and a 7% uptick in medium-budget spend ($1,000-$9,999).
2026 event budget trends include:
- Replacing high-budget events with mid-range budgets.
- Reimagining which vendor services are “essential.” For example, 34% of party planners in 2025 rated professional decorations as essential — now just 25% plan to pay for this service.
Gen Z Has Entered the Chat
The last time we surveyed our audience, Gen Z was still in school. Now that they’re entering adulthood, they account for 28% of planners and are impacting the events space in big ways. Most notably, Gen Z has high expectations for how and when event venues and vendors communicate. 16% of survey respondents expect to hear from businesses within one hour of their initial inquiry — a huge jump from other generations’ expectations.
2026 Gen Z event trends include:
- Medium-sized budgets ranging from $1,000 to $9,999.
- Preference for aesthetic experiences like rustic or outdoor venues.
- Large emphasis on parties over other types of events. 81% of Gen Z survey respondents are planning parties compared to 14% weddings and 5% meetings.
Planners Want Information Upfront
In addition to quick communication, today’s event planners also value information upfront. Planners want to know how much your venue or service costs, if you’re available on their event date, and if you’re trustworthy — all before talking to a human.
2026 venue and vendor checklist:
- Transparent price quotes available online.
- Photos and videos of your venue space or service.
- Updated availability calendar so planners don’t have to guess when you’re booked.
- Customer reviews that show professionalism, quality, and proof of service.
AI is on the Horizon
While artificial intelligence has quickly dominated other industries, event planners have been slower to adopt this technology. This is likely due to the relational nature of the events industry — something AI just can’t replace.
While 36% of survey respondents plan to use AI for event planning in 2026, nearly two-thirds of event planners are not using it at all. Those who are using AI to plan weddings, parties, or corporate meetings are doing so intentionally.
2026 AI event planning trends include:
- Early-stage event research and inspiration.
- Time-saving tasks like automation.
- Comparing multiple options to find the best venue or vendor.
